YouTube Introduces New Shorts Playback Quality Option and New Minecraft Effect

YouTube has rolled out a new Shorts playback quality option, allowing users to optimize their viewing experience. In addition, YouTube has introduced a new Minecraft effect for Shorts to mark the game’s 15th anniversary.

Yes, Minecraft has reached its 15th year milestone. Meanwhile, Space Invaders celebrates its 45th anniversary.

To begin with, the new Shorts video quality option is now accessible in your Shorts settings within the app.

Users can now choose between Data Saver, Higher Picture Quality, or leave it on auto detection, which adjusts playback based on connectivity.

According to YouTube:

“Once a viewer has made a selection in the Shorts player, the selection will be applied either until a new selection is made, or upon exiting the Shorts player.”

This feature allows users to manually set their desired playback quality for optimal viewing.

Additionally, YouTube is testing new ways to enhance viewer interaction during live streams using Super Chat.

“We’ve heard from live stream viewers that they’d like a more expedient way to connect with the community, and what chat offers as of today feels too limited. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be experimenting with a ‘Reply’ button, as well as the ability to like Super Chats, which will offer viewers more meaningful ways to interact with the community.”

These updates, though not extensive, will provide more avenues for audience engagement during live streams.

Finally, YouTube has introduced a new Minecraft effect for Shorts:

This new effect immerses users in the game, providing a unique experience. While interactive capabilities are not yet available, a fully functional Minecraft VR experience might be on the horizon. For now, this feature serves as a fun way to celebrate the game’s anniversary.

Users can try out the new effect via the Shorts feature in the YouTube app.
